MOPS FAQ's
Q: What is MOPS?
A: MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers. MOPS is an international group whose primary goal is to meet the needs of all mums. It is designed to encourage mothers, through meetings and playgroups. We are dedicated to the message that “Mothering Matters” and strive to provide the encouragement that moms of young children need during these critical and formative years.
Q: I have a baby or I am pregnant for the first time, is MOPS for me?
A: Yes, definitely! The support and encouragement that MOPS gives is perfect for a new mum. In some cases, Bangkok MOPS becomes the surogate family and social outlet needed for mums.
Q: My child has just started preschool or kindergarten, am I allowed to still come to MOPS without my child?
A: Yes. MOPS meetings are not a mother-and-toddler playgroup; we exist to meet the needs of moms! Mothers with preschool-aged children from 0 through 5 years are very welcome at MOPS with or without their preschooler.
Q: I would like to come to MOPS and bring my two preschoolers. Is there childcare during MOPS?
A: Yes. MOPS has a structured, organized childcare program called MOPPETS. This program gives mums a well-deserved break at the MOPS meetings.
Q: How much does MOPS cost?
A: We ask for 800 baht donation per term (our terms are from September – December and then January – May) or 200 baht per meeting.
Q: I am not of the Christian faith. Can I still come to MOPS?
A: MOPS welcomes ALL mothers of preschoolers regardless of age, marital status, race, religion, creed, or national origin. MOPS is a wonderfully diverse group of women, making it a completely unique system of support.
Q: I am already a member of Bambi, why should I join MOPS too?
A: Bambi is a wonderful resource for mums -- thank goodness for it! There is no such thing as too much support for moms anyway! MOPS is different from other groups because we offer childcare at our meetings so that our mums can take a break and focus on herself. MOPS is there to meet the needs of moms. We believe that all moms share needs that we focus on at MOPS. These needs include:
- Identity I want to find “me” again.
- Growth I want space to develop “me.”
- Relationship I want someone to understand me.
- Help I want some help!
- Perspective I want to focus on what matters.
- Hope I want to find a deeper meaning in life.
Please feel free to email mops@ecbbangkok.org for more specific
directions or details about our Playgroups.
